Cappadocia

Cappadocia – bizarre rock formations, underground cities, and vast steppes. A volcanic landscape in Central Anatolia, Turkey, also known as the land of beautiful horses and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Most foreigners know this region mainly for the bizarre rock formations and the early morning baloons that adorn the red sky of Cappadocia. But the region has much more to offer han the well-known tourist hightlights would suggest.

I will be visiting Cappadocia with F. Dilek Yurdakul, a Turkish National Geographic photographer who, due to her local presence in Cappadocia, maintains a network and close personal contacts with the locals.

We will visit horse farmers in Hörmetçi, watch master potters at work in Avanos, observe wild flamingos, drink tea with locals, and photograph migrating buffalo herds in the dust clouds of the mystical valleys.

OUR MISSION

This journey will be a photographic documentary project into the heart of Cappadocia, showcasing the region in its most authentic form.

Popular tourist attractions will only be captured periphally. With years of eperience and expertise in landscape, documentary, and street photography, we focus primarily on the people, their lives, and their everyday experiences. We want to reflect an honest, unposed image of Cappadocia.

The project will culminate in the collaborative creation of a photo book about the Cappadocia region.
